Yessenia

Yessenia

Senior Veterinary Technician

Some people like to learn, while others like to teach. As a Senior Veterinary Technician at Sibley Animal Hospital, Yessenia has been able to do a little bit of both. She’s constantly learning about the different animals she sees every day and she’s able to teach people just how valuable animals are to society! She has 16 years of experience as a technician in the veterinary field and have completed some of the course work for certification as a veterinary technician.

Yessenia is a first-generation American proudly born to Guatemalan parents. She grew up nearby in the Calumet City area. She brings her bilingual talents to Sibley Animal Hospital assisting Spanish speaking pet parents get the care they need for their family member. When she was a teenager she got a job volunteering at a wildlife center working in kennels. That experience made her hungrier for more knowledge to help animals.

Ever since Yessenia was young, she has felt a kinship with animals. Her parents weren’t exactly thrilled at the sight of all the ants, squirrels, birds, kittens and raccoons she brought home. Nonetheless, they understood her need to want to help and “save” these animals. Fast forward years later, and she’s still helping animals to the best of her ability.

What exactly is it about animals that Yessenia loves? For starters, she appreciates the wide range of emotions they feel, from love to sadness to happiness. She also admires the fact that animals don’t judge, hate or discriminate. They have been there for her through her ups and downs in life, and their love is unconditional.

Dentistry is Yessenia’s favorite part of her job. She knows just how important oral hygiene is for animals, since it has an impact on the rest of their bodies.

When she’s not at the animal hospital, you can find Yessenia at home hanging out with her husband and child, or tending to her pets. She has 6 cats, 2 dogs, a parrot, a frog and a fish, so it’s safe to say she’s got a full house! Her other favorite pastimes include drawing, camping out, playing volleyball and going swimming.

Sue

Sue

Lead Receptionist

Sometimes, fate puts people in the places they never knew they needed to be. Take Sue, for example. She happened to be browsing the Internet when an ad for a vet receptionist job at Sibley Animal Hospital popped up on her screen. She applied for the position, went in, met with a doctor, and then immediately knew that it was the place for her!

While Sue absolutely loves being around animals, she also loves working at the front desk. She gets a feeling of fulfillment by helping pet owners care for their pets. It all stems from a personal experience she had with her own pet.

As a young adult, she had a cat battling cancer. The vet and the staff at the animal hospital were absolutely amazing and left a lasting impression on her. They did much more than just treat her cat for the illness; they were also there for her. Sue hopes that can make clients who come into Sibley Animal Hospital feel the same way she felt dealing with the staff who treated her cat.

Hailing from Calumet City, IL, Sue grew up in a household where it was just her, her parents and their dog. After a career in customer service, she got married, had her daughter and was a stay-at-home mom.

Sue knows firsthand what it feels like to bring a pet to the hospital, so she’s eager to help people in the same position. She’s always in awe at all of the breakthroughs in veterinary medicine that bring improvements to animal’s lives.

While Sue is all about helping animals at her day job, she’s also a very devoted wife and a proud mother. She spends a lot of time with her dogs, Cici and Brooklyn, who do a marvelous job of entertaining her with their antics!

Frances

Frances

Animal Care Technician/Veterinary Assistant

Giving birth is one of the most magical and inspirational moments a person can witness. Just ask Frances. Today, Frances is a veterinary technician at Sibley Animal Hospital who works to save and help animals. She was inspired to get into the field the day she watched her beloved cat give birth to a litter of adorable kittens!

Frances enjoys working at Sibley Animal Hospital not only to help out animals, but also for personal reasons. She finds being around these furry creatures to be good therapy, as the animals lift her spirits when she’s feeling a bit down.

Frances grew up in Chicago, IL in a household with her parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Her siblings picked on her a lot, so she often found herself staying in her room with her cat. Frances explains that cats are her favorite animals because they only choose to be around people that they really like. The fact that the house cat always chose to be around her meant the world to her.

After her cat gave birth, Frances was determined to work with animals. She moved to Rapid City, SD to study a vet tech program. Her dream was to work with animals in the cat family, like lions, tigers, cougars and lynxes in the zoo, but the waiting list for vet techs was long. As fate would have it, she ended up landing a position at Sibley Animal Hospital instead, and the rest is history!

Whenever she’s got some free time, you can catch Frances going horseback riding, one of her favorite hobbies. She also loves going to the movies with her family and friends.

Marjorie absolutely loves animals; being around them makes the entire experience at Sibley Animal Hospital worthwhile. While she loves engaging with animals at work, she also likes heading home and relaxing after a long, hard day at work.

Having grown up in Chicago aka Chi-Town, Marjorie definitely values her free time. She spends it hanging out with her daughter, her dog Princess and her cat Midnight.

Letty

Letty

Certified Veterinary Technician

Letty’s journey into veterinary medicine was driven by a lifelong passion for helping others, both human and animal. Growing up in the Chicagoland area, she originally envisioned a career in nursing. But once she stepped into the veterinary field, she discovered her true calling. That realization was reinforced by a deeply personal experience with her family’s beloved dog, Luna. When Luna suddenly lost the ability to walk, Letty was faced with a heartbreaking decision. Thanks to a last-chance treatment and unwavering perseverance, Luna regained her mobility, giving them five more cherished years together. That experience solidified Letty’s belief that every pet deserves a fighting chance, no matter how tough the situation.

While finishing her final semester of vet tech school, Letty shared Luna’s story with the hospital director, who saw her dedication and offered her a job on the spot. Since then, she’s embraced every aspect of her career, but she has a special love for surgical nursing. The combination of skill, knowledge, and experience required keeps her engaged and constantly learning, and she thrives in the fast-paced environment. Whether she’s monitoring anesthesia, assisting in procedures, or helping a pet recover, Letty loves knowing she’s making a difference in the lives of others.

Outside of work, Letty and her husband share their home with a lovable menagerie of pets, including three dogs (Romina, Nugget, and Minnie), a fluffy Persian cat named Chowder, and an axolotl named Turk. When she’s not caring for animals, Letty’s usually got her hands in the dirt, working on turning her backyard into a garden paradise. Her other favorite pastimes include hiking with her husband and planning their future adventures together.

Abigail

Abigail

Veterinary Technician/Kennel Assistant (with Annabelle)

Abigail’s journey into veterinary medicine began with a deep curiosity about animal health and a passion for helping pet owners better understand their furry companions. Her first hands-on experience came from volunteering at an animal shelter on weekends, which only fueled her desire to learn more. That passion led her to Fox College, where she gained valuable experience during her externship. When she discovered Sibley Animal Hospital, Abigail knew it was the perfect place to expand her skills and grow as part of a dedicated team. With the encouragement of Dr. Davis and her colleagues, Abigail is excited to bring her knowledge and enthusiasm to every patient she meets.

Advocating for preventive care is one of Abigail’s biggest missions, because she knows firsthand how difficult it is to lose a pet without fully understanding why. That experience drives her to educate pet owners about annual exams, early detection, and proactive health care. Clinically, she also has a special interest in hematology, appreciating how much insight a single blood sample can provide about a pet’s well-being. Whether she’s assisting with patients in the exam room or working behind the scenes, Abigail takes pride in making a difference in the lives of both pets and their owners.

At home, Abigail’s life is full of wagging tails and playful chaos, thanks to her three beloved dogs. Each walk is an adventure, with her husky mix leading the charge, her energetic corgi investigating everything, and her older terrier mix taking a more relaxed approach. Abigail also treasures spending time with her family, especially her nephew and niece. Completing her studies at Fox College and earning her veterinary technician pin remains one of her proudest achievements, marking the start of an exciting and fulfilling career. While she’s still early in her journey, Abigail is looking forward to making plenty of unforgettable memories at Sibley Animal Hospital!

Annabelle and Shark

These are our hospital pets adopted by members of the staff. They look for affection as often as possible and walk around making sure everything is in order. Being next to the forest preserve, they also make sure we have no wild animal squatters entering the building.
