July 31st Is National Mutt Day

July 1 2022

Happy National Pooch Day! On this day we celebrate all the wonderful things about mixed breed dogs. Mutts, mixed or cross-breed dogs are endearing and loyal, and have their own unique personalities. Read on as a vet talks about National Pooch Day and why mixed breed dogs make the best dogs.

Healthy Mutts

You may not know it, but mixed breed dogs are actually healthier than purebred dogs. That’s right: mixed breed dogs are less likely to develop health problems like hip dysplasia or heart disease than their purebred counterparts.

In fact, mixed breeds make the best dogs for the following reasons:

  • They are just as loyal as purebred dogs. As long as you treat them with love and respect, they will do anything for you.
  • You have no problem with allergies! Allergies are common in purebred dogs because they are bred to have certain traits, such as: a curly coat or floppy ears, but if you have a stray dog, their coat will not be curly or limp. It will be whatever! And their ears are probably normal shaped too!
  • They are much cheaper than purebreds! On National Pooch Day, you can get an adorable puppy (or adopt an adult dog that’s been waiting at shelters forever) for just $1.

How to Celebrate National Mutt Day?

There are many ways to celebrate National Dog Day, but one of the best is to spend time with your dog. If you have free time from work or school, consider taking her to the park or for a walk in the woods. If you’re busy with work or school and don’t have time to go out, you can take them for a long walk around the block, or just sit in your yard and pet them while they sniff around at random things.

Other ways to celebrate this holiday include:

  • Making homemade dog treats
  • Volunteering with local rescue organizations
  • Spending time volunteering at animal shelters
  • Buying gifts for other dog owners who have come to your home unsolicited (and then give them away). )
  • Create Art About How Much You Love Your Dog

If you would like more information on how you can get involved or would like to schedule an exam for your dog, call us, your local veterinarian, today.
