Cat Care 101: Fluffy’s Basic Needs

May 15 2022

Cats are really popular pets. They are very easy keepers, which is one reason for that. In fact, out of all of the animals humans have domesticated, Fluffy may very well be the most independent. That doesn’t mean your kitty is entirely self-sufficient, though. A local vet talks about some of the things your furry pal requires in this article.

Food

Proper nutrition lies at the foundation of any good pet care routine. While buying Fluffy’s food isn’t rocket science, there are things to keep in mind. You’ll need to decide whether to feed kibble, wet food, or both. It’s also important to pick a good food that’s appropriate for your kitty’s health, age, and lifestyle. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Water

Hydration is crucial to your feline pal’s survival, and it’s also important for her overall health. Many cats would rather drink running water, so you might want to get Fluffy a fountain. If you let your furry buddy go out and/or have more than one kitty, put out extra water bowls.

Beds

Our feline friends are all unique creatures, but they have one thing in common: they love naps. Fluffy may spend as much as 20 hours a day snoozing! Offer your sleepy pet lots of comfy napping spots and beds. (That includes lap space.)

Toys/Enrichment

Fluffy can’t spend all of her time sleeping. She will need stimulation and also enrichment. Be sure to offer her lots of playthings. Cats all have their own tastes, so pay attention to what your feline buddy likes.

Veterinary Care

Our feline overlords tend to be fairly hardy, but they still need great health care to thrive. Fluffy will need vaccines, regular exams, as well as parasite control. We also recommend getting her spayed or neutered and microchipped.

Grooming

Most cats are pretty good about cleaning themselves. However, longhaired kitties will likely need some help here. Fluffy will also need more assistance with her beauty regime as she gets older.

Kitty Must-Haves

A clean litterbox is at the top of this list! Fluffy will also appreciate catnip, kitty furniture, scratching posts, and, of course, the occasional empty box.

Love

Love is the special ingredient here. Spend time with Fluffy and be sure to pay attention to her. Pet her, talk to her, and offer her lap space. Purrs are truly precious!
