Keeping Your Cat Healthy

October 21 2021

Kitties are known for being very independent. Fluffy will groom herself daily, will discreetly use a litterbox, and won’t need walks or training. However, your feline pal isn’t quite as self-sufficient as she thinks. Cats still need good care and lots of love to thrive! Read on for some great tips from a Dolton, IL vet on keeping your cute pet healthy.

Good Diet

Good nutrition is a key part of any proper kitty care regimen. Offer your furry pal a high-quality cat food, one that’s appropriate for her age and lifestyle. Take care not to overfeed your pet though. Fluffy is very, very good at meowpulation!

Catproofing

Despite the popular saying, cats do not have nine lives. What they do have, however, is a knack for getting into mischief. Make your home safe for Fluffy by addressing anything that could endanger her. This includes things like wires and cords, plastic bags and ties, chemicals, medicine, toxic plants, and any small or sharp objects. Kittens need even more attention in this area, as they’re tiny enough to squeeze into very small spaces. Ask your vet for tips and tricks.

Clean Litterbox

The fact that your furry buddy will use a litterbox definitely makes caring for her much easier. Just be sure to keep it clean! We recommend scooping it daily and replacing the litter every week.

Grounding

Kitties are very curious, and they love to explore the Great Outdoors. However, Fluffy will be both safer and healthier inside, where she’s protected from things like traffic, weather, parasites, chemicals, and other hazards. Keep your pint-sized lion indoors!

Veterinary Care

We know, Fluffy would probably rather take yet another nap than come to visit us. However, proper veterinary care is crucial to her well-being. Microchipping, spay/neuter surgery, parasite control, and vaccinations are all crucial components of your feline buddy’s health care regimen. Exams are very important too. Most cats should visit their doctors at least once a year, though some kitties need more frequent appointments. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Love

We may like to joke about how cold and calculating kitties are, but that really isn’t true. Fluffy is very emotional, and needs to feel safe and loved. Pay lots of attention to your feline friend, and keep that motor going!
